Bobby Greenlease was a 6 year old boy who grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. His father was a multi-millionaire Cadillac dealer. He was kidnapped and murdered in September, 1953.
Bonnie Heady and Carl Hall both came from privilege, and became addicted to drugs and alcohol. They were boyfriend and girlfriend at the time of the murder.
On the morning of September 28th, 1953, Bonnie Heady posed as Bobby's aunt and kidnapped him from a Catholic pre-school in Kansas City, MO.
Bonnie Heady and Carl Hall demanded $600,000 from the Greenlease's in return for their son. At the time, this was the largest ransom ever paid in America.
The case is complicated by mob involvement. Joe Costello tipped off a crooked cop, and in the process of the arrest, almost half of the ransom money went missing.
Austin Hall and Bonnie Heady were executed on December 18th, 1953 in Missouri's lethal gas. chamber at State Penitentiary in Jefferson City, MO.
Almost 70 years later, a mystery of this case still emerges. $300,000 dollars (~3 million dollars in 2021) from the ransom money has never been found or returned.
